How it works
01
Places around you
We search in concentric circles of driving time: up to 30 minutes, up to an hour, an hour and a half … until we find 10 sunny places.
02
Weather when you arrive
We don't look at the weather now, but at the forecast for the hour you'll get there, and how long the sun will last – until sunset.
03
Fresh forecast
The forecast for 397 towns, peaks, lakes and sights is refreshed every hour between 4:00 and 22:00. Peaks often rise above the fog when the valley is grey.
An hour counts as sunny when at least 65 % of daylight is sunshine. We only show places with at least 2 h of sun when you arrive. More about the method

Frequently asked questions
Where is it sunny in Slovenia today?
The “Where is it sunny today” page lists every place that is sunny now or will be later today, with the time the sun lasts until. For the nearest sunny places by your location and driving time, use the search on the home page.
Where is there no fog when the valley is foggy?
During a temperature inversion, fog fills the basins and valleys while the peaks and plateaus above it are often sunny. The list of peaks shows where the sun is now; the search also takes the driving time into account.
How does Kje je sonce? know where the sun will be?
We import the hourly Open-Meteo weather forecast for 397 places. An hour counts as sunny when at least 65 % of daylight is sunshine or the sky is almost clear. We only show places with at least 2 h of sun after you arrive and before sunset.
How often is the forecast updated?
Every hour between 4:00 and 22:00 Slovenian time. The time of the last update is shown with the results and on each place page.
How is the driving time calculated?
OSRM calculates the driving time by car on real roads, using OpenStreetMap data. We search in rings of driving time – up to 30 minutes, an hour, an hour and a half and on up to four hours – until we find 10 sunny places.
Does Kje je sonce? store my location?
No. Your location is only used for the search and is rounded to about 1 km before it is sent to the routing and place-search services. For statistics we only keep the rounded search location, without an IP address.
Is it free?
Yes. Kje je sonce? is a free web app with no sign-up and no ads. It works in the browser on phones and computers.
