About
Kje je sonce? ("Where is the sun?") is a free web app that finds the nearest sunny places in Slovenia when the weather is bad. It doesn't show the weather where you are, it shows where to go: towns, peaks, lakes and sights that will be sunny when you arrive.
How we find the sun
- We follow 397 places: towns, peaks and plateaus, lakes, well-known castles and show caves, mountain huts you can drive to, waterfalls and gorges.
- The hourly weather forecast for all places is imported every hour between 4:00 and 22:00 Slovenian time.
- An hour counts as sunny when at least 65 % of the daylight is sunshine, or cloud cover is at most 30 %. A low sun measures little sunshine even under a clear sky, so we use both.
- We only show places with at least 2 h of sun after you arrive and before sunset. If the sun comes a little later, we wait at most 60 minutes.
- Driving times are real road times by car. We search in rings of 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240 minutes of driving until we find 10 sunny places.
- During a temperature inversion the fog sits in the basins while peaks and plateaus rise above it. That is why the list includes peaks up to about 1,800 m that you can drive to or reach with a short walk.

Limitations
The forecast is a weather model's estimate and can differ from the actual weather, especially with fog and thunderstorms. Before heading into the mountains, also check the conditions on the way and travel safely.
